Hi everyone, welcome. This is episode 1041 of Blind Magic in Alice Springs. I am your presenter and host Murray Stewart. Let me share with you today some pure blind magic wisdom. Yes, because that's what it is, blind magic wisdom.
My wisdom, and therefore my messages to you, are based on my lived experience with being vision impaired over many years. At 61 years of age, I have a lot of banked knowledge. Today, I want to highlight the importance of using all your senses, not just your vision.
Support workers play a crucial role in my life, each bringing different skills to the table. However, even support workers have a lot to learn. When working with anyone, especially the vision impaired, it is vital to engage more than just your eyes.
Shopping is a prime example. Despite the brilliance of my support team, I often get frustrated when they bring home bread or fruit that is not fresh. They tend to rely solely on their sight, missing out on the tactile and olfactory clues that indicate freshness.
Feel the fruit to detect bruises or pesticide marks. Smell and touch the bread to ensure it is fresh and not doughy. By engaging more senses, you can expand your brain's neuropathway maturity, enhancing your cognitive abilities and sensory experiences.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to develop a truly magnificent brain. Dare to use more than just your eyes, and unlock learning opportunities that can enrich your life intellectually and sensorially.
Okay, everyone, this has been episode 1041, a Blind Magic Communications production.
